A few days ago, my friend Ian's son was born - little Tyler Pringle. Today, in true ubergeek style, I opened a Gmail account for Tyler so his parents and their friends could write to him and record their feelings and recollections about his early life...I hope he'll see this archive of his parents thoughts grow into his personal archive of memories as he grows older...this is my first message to Tyler:

Well, welcome to the world Tyler - three days ago you were born into a time of incredible change, vibrancy, magical technologies, great creativity and indeed a lot of optimism.
You're a lucky chap, not because of the times in which you will live, but for the timeless qualities of your parents - their honesty, integrity, intellect and their hearts will take you on an incredible journey through your life.
In just a few years I've learned much from your Dad and come to see him as a close friend, colleague and confidante.
Cherish them both, they'll be the biggest influences in your life :)
