Quote Of The Day: John Cusack On Jesus...

Johncusack From the June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair...

Who are your heroes in real life?
Let’s go with Jesus. Not the gay-hating, war-making political tool of the right, but the outcast, subversive, supreme adept who preferred the freaks and lepers and despised and doomed to the rich and powerful. The man Garry Wills describes “with the future in his eyes … paradoxically calming and provoking,” and whom Flannery O’Connor saw as “the ragged figure who moves from tree to tree in the back of [one’s] mind.”

Neat.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

He's back! I couldn't help but grin when the first few bars of the Indy theme play over the classically Spielberg-ian shot of a silhouetted Indy pulling on his fedora...

'Damn, I thought that was closer'. Cute, but funny enough without the dialogue George.

Persepolis

PersepolisMarjane Satrapi's autobiographical Persepolis is one of my favorite books and probably the one I've most often given as a gift to others.

Until today's post at AICN, I had no idea there was a movie adaptation in production. The short trailer seems to capture the energy, spirit and humour of the book... I can't wait to see it on the big screen :)

Hotel Chevalier

Hotelchevalier 'Wanna See My View Of Paris?'...so ends Wes Anderson's prologue to The Darjeeling Limited, a 13-minute short set in Paris' (fictional?) Hotel Chevalier.

Simple, sweet and poignant...the final shot lingers over the heartbreaking final moments of a relationship; a coda that's as cold as it is intimate. Nicely crafted Wes :)

Sigur Rós: Heima

Heima1 'I sometimes get this strange and sort of uncontrollable urge to want to go home...'

Sigur Rós' forthcoming album Hvarf-Heim is gonna be accompanied by what appears to be a Heima2 magical DVD movie entitled Heima...Icelandic for 'at home'.

I first heard Sigur in Vanilla Sky...and ever since imagined their work to be 'widescreen music'...Heima's breathtaking vistas look like they'll give form to Sigur's fictions...actually it looks a little like Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi.

The Darjeeling Limited

Thedarjeelinglimited Wes Anderson, one of my favourite directors, has his latest film premiering in a few weeks; The Darjeeling Limited is the story of three estranged brothers that journey across India together in an attempt to put aside their differences, following the death of their father.

You can find HD trailers at the Quicktime site, as well as on YouTube.

What's goin on?
I dunno, I guess the train's lost.
How can a train be lost...it's on rails?

I'm not sure why a POV shot of a train hurtling down a track makes me chuckle...I guess Anderson doesn't need Bill Murray to make me laugh :)

Bat-trailer

DarkknightYay! There's a new Batman Dark Knight teaser trailer at Why So Serious? You get to see - um - nothing?

UPDATE: Sounds like 2008'll also see an anime-style, straight-to-DVD Batman movie set between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight...in the vein of Clone Wars, Dark Fury and Animatrix :)

Pretty In Sixteen Pink Breakfast Candles

Johncusack Mark Ronson on The Kaiser Chiefs' You Can Have It All...

'It could have been the slow dance song in a John Hughes movie - like Molly Ringwald all bummed and stuff, before the cute guy she's been secretly in love with comes over and takes her hand.'

I see it too and I want to see that movie, starring John Cusack perhaps? Maybe I'm in an 80s nostalgia mood today after a girl I had a crush on at school friended me on Facebook :)

Don't Blow It...

1 ...the fedora's back - it's been eighteen years. I can't wait :)

The Batpod...

Batmancycle ...not some Oakley-esque remix of an iPod, but the Dark Knight's new ride. I want one :)
